Improved Antigen Detection of Male-Only Dirofilaria immitis Infections in Canine Serum after Heat Treatment for Immune Complex Dissociation

چکیده
Since the mid-1990s, male-only heartworm infections have been considered undetectable using antigen tests based on experimental studies. Results from those studies are in contrast to reports decade prior showing variable male detection naturally infected animals and chemical and/or heat immune complex dissociating steps. Several recent utilizing treatment for dissociation (Heat ICD) demonstrated increased sensitivity necropsy verified a higher-than-expected frequency of this type infection. This study utilized archived canine serum with evaluate DiroCHEK® (Zoetis LLC, Parsippany, NJ, USA), Witness® SNAP® Heartworm RT (IDEXX Laboratories, Inc., Westbrook, ME, USA) tests. showed significant increases following (+42.1%, p < 0.0001) (+26.3%, = 0.0020), but not (+10.5%, 0.1250). Prior treatment, false negative results were obtained 76.3–83.0% mature infections. Infections only immature worms never detected any test used. Heat allows improved infections, which may occur more frequently than previously recognized, like all pose risk chronic cumulative pathology as well thromboembolic disease regardless infection intensity.

Survey of Canine Dirofilaria immitis Infection in New Caledonia
Canine dirofilariosis is a frequent parasitic disease in New-Caledonia. A survey of canine heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) infection among dogs from the cities of Tontouta, Nandaï and Nouméa, was performed in March 2009 using two antigen test kits; the microwell ELISA test: DiroCHE (Synbiotics Europe) and the Rapid Immuno Migration (RIM) test: WITNESS DIROFILARIA (Synbiotics Europe). Blood samp...

Between July and August 2009, a total of two hundred crossbreed dogs in three contiguous littoralprovinces of Guilan, Mazandaran and Golestan were sampled. Circulating antigens and/or microfilariae ofDirofilaria immitis were found in 25.5% of dogs in the whole studied area. The highest infection rate wasfound in Guilan (51.42%), followed by Golestan and Mazandaran provinces (15.38% and 7.69%, r...
متن کاملDevelopment of New Recombinant DgK Antigen for Diagnosis of Dirofilaria immitis Infections in Dogs Using ELISA Technique and Its Comparison to Molecular Methods
Background: Dirofilaria immitis is a cosmopolitan zoonotic, vector-borne parasite of carnivorous animals causing dirofilariasis in human beings. Common commercial serodiagnostic tests for canine dirofilariasis usually lead to different results in their sensitivity and specificity. The present study reports development of recombinant DgK (rDgK) antigen of D. immitis for accurate immunodiagnosis o...

Microfilariae of Dirofilaria immitis were recovered from an experimentally infected dog and inoculated intravenously into adult female BALB/c mice. Each mouse received 1 X 10(5) microfilariae. In one experiment mice were sublethally irradiated with gamma radiation 24 h prior to microfilarial inoculation; microfilariae were counted at 11.00 and 23.00 h 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days after inocula...
